Abstract. In this paper we introduce the framed pure braid group on $n$ strands of an oriented surface, a topological generalisation of the pure braid group $P_n$. We give different equivalents definitions for framed pure braid groups and we study exact sequences relating these groups with other generalisations of $P_n$, usually called surface pure braid groups. The notion of surface framed braid groups is also introduced.
Abstract. We determine the lower central series and corresponding residual properties for braid groups and pure braid groups of orientable surfaces.
Abstract. We prove that the filtration on the pure braid group on g strands, induced by the lower central series of the Torelli group of a genus g surface with one boundary component, coincides with its lower central series, shifted by one.
In particular, the cubic Jacobi relations in the pure braid group are quadratic relations in the Torelli group.
Abstract. We give a finite presentation of the mapping class group of an oriented (possibly bounded) surface of genus greater or equal than 1, considering Dehn twists on a very simple set of curves.
Abstract. Topolological Quantum Field Theories are closely related to representations of Mapping Class Groups of surfaces. Considering the case of the TQFT derived from the Kauffman bracket, we describe the central extension coming from this representation, which is just a projective one.
Abstract. We give a presentation of the mapping class group M of a (possibly bounded) surface considering either all twists or just non-separating twists as generators. We also study certain central extensions of M. One of them plays a key role in studying TQFT functors, namely the mapping class group of a p1-structure surface. We give a presentation of this extension.
