A glance on Spectral Theory in higher rank

The spectral theory of the Laplacian on hyperbolic surfaces is a well-studied topic. There are many classical results in various settings (compact, finite volume, infinite volume) on the nature of the spectrum. We will review some of the Theorems on hyperbolic surfaces and mention a few results on higher rank locally symmetric spaces.
