On groups acting on manifolds

Given a smooth Riemannian manifold, several groups act on it - by isometries, by diffeomorphisms, by homeomorphisms or by homotopy equivalences. We shall discuss several classical results about what is known and see some interesting examples. Later on, we shall outline some observations about diffeomorphisms of product of (possibly exotic) spheres.
