I will explain examples of contactomorphisms in every dimension that are smoothly isotopic to the identity but that are not contact isotopic to the identity. In fact, I will prove the stronger statement that they are not even symplectically pseudo-isotopic to the identity (this notion due tu Cieliebak and Eliashberg will be defined during the talk). This is a joint work with Klaus Niederkrüger (Institut de mathématiques de Toulouse and Rényi Alfréd Matematikai Kutatóintézet in Budapest).
In this talk we discuss a criterion that characterizes overtwisted contact structures. The result establishes seven equivalent properties that relate overtwistedness to loose Legendrians, adapted open books decompositions and thick neighborhoods of overtwisted submanifolds. We first provide the necessary definitions and properties involved in the criterion, and then present the proof of (part of) these equivalences. Finally, we explore possible consequences and applications. This is joint work with E. Murphy and F. Presas.
Loose Legendrian n-submanifolds, n>1, were introduced by Murphy and proved to be flexible in the h-principle sense: any two loose Legendrian submanifolds that are formally Legendrian isotopic are in fact actually Legendrian isotopic. Legendrian contact homology is a Floer theoretic invariant that associates a differential graded algebra (DGA) to a Legendrian submanifold. The DGA of a loose Legendrian submanifold is trivial. We show that the converse is not true by constructing non-loose Legendrian n-spheres in standard contact (2n+1)-space, n > 1, with trivial DGA.
